Seattle Aquarium on a school trip with the Kodester

Sadness ensued today for my daughter Saidey. You see, Kodi is going on a field trip today to the Seattle Aquarium and she really wanted to go along for the ride. I really wanted to take her. The school however, had different ideas and do not allow younger siblings on field trips. Sadness indeed. She had a real hard time with me leaving this morning to go with Kodi and her not able to go along. I will have to make it up to her somehow.

Now Kodi on the other hand is super excited and happy I am going with him. I’ll be honest, I’m not excited about this trip, at least not like I was for the field trip I went with him to the Seattle Children’s Museum to see The Borrowers, I love me some plays. This one however doesn’t excite me at all. I’ll enjoy myself with Kodi and I’m sure we will have fun, but personally I’ve seen it all many times before, so my only enjoyment is in how Kodi takes it all in.

Not to change direction but I started writing this on the bus to the ferry and now it’s 9:50am and I have not had breakfast yet. Bear in mind I usually tend to get up at 4;30am and have breakfast at 5:00am, and lunch by 11:00am. Today by the time I eat it will be my normal lunch time. Oh, and I haven’t had any coffee. Coffee is my life blood, I drink it every day. I will have to get some soon or the kids I’m in charge of will have the Red Hulk to deal with as their chaperone.

We finally got to the aquarium and I darted  upstairs to the cafe to grab a sammich, clam chowder and some soda. I inhale the sandwich and start on the clam chowder, which I always use as a dipping sauce for my sammich. You would think with this being the Seattle Aquarium their clam chowder would be pretty good, much in the same way that you would suspect the hot dogs at PETSMART would be tasty. The point there is that the chowder was awful, dreadful, horrible, tasteless and disappointing. So much so that I ended up throwing it a way. I would silently curse it in my head for the rest of the day.

I gave Kodi my phone to take pictures with, which I uploaded and put in the gallery below. Obviously the ones he is in he did not take, but the rest are pretty much all him.

The Aquarium was kinda neat, not like I remembered it. Though I do remember the Shark tank being more awesome than it was. It seemed so underwhelming. The kids got to go to this classroom thingy where they all got to touch and learn about different sea critters like Star Fish, Sea Cucumbers and the like. You know, all the crap you are allowed to touch without getting in trouble.

I really think it would be awesome if by the shark tank had a sign that read “Unruly kids will be fed to the sharks” and at the bottom of the tank have some fake (or real) children’s skeletons and maybe a back pack or two. Then you could tell the kids “See that? Be good or you are lunch!” Probably still wouldn’t work.

Homer Charles Part 3 – A turn of events, a bad phone call and a reassurance

Immediately as I clicked on the “publish” button for the last post I received a phone call from my sister. She told me that Grandpa had another episode and that I needed to leave and go to the hospital because they were taking him off all life support. I then called my mom to verify if this was the case before I left work, and sadly my mom confirmed that this was indeed the information passed onto them by Lila (my grandpa’s wife and sub-sequentially my step-grandma). I went to inform my boss, couldn’t find her and told Michael (co-worker) I was leaving and to please inform our boss. I also emailed her to let her know.

I left work, called my wife, and I raced to the hospital. Hit about Mach 2 on the freeway on my way there, would have been pulled over and received a speeding ticket but the cop couldn’t see me zoom by him.

 

“Mach 2 on the road? Isn’t Mach the speed of an object moving through air, or any other fluid substance, divided by the speed of sound as it is in that substance for its particular physical conditions, including those of temperature and pressure? And isn’t it commonly used to represent the speed of an object when it is traveling close to or above the speed of sound?”

“Why yes yes it is, and I never said on the ground. I was in my DeLorean, and as you well know we don’t need roads.”

If you think about it that way, the Mach 5 from Speed Racer is so stupidly (yes, stupidly) named.

My wife meets me at the Safeway in Bremerton so we can just carpool since she was on her way as well. I make a comment that I wanted to stop and get coffee on our way in. We did not.

We get there and start to assess the situation. I speak with my mom and aunt about what is going on. I’m in a dark sullen place because, oh you know, this shit is sad and is getting to me in ways I never thought it would. I put up a good front but I’m broken up like an Emo Kid on prom night.

A few visits to the hospital ago I was showing off Kaylie’s new laptop to my parents and my uncle, since then they have both bought versions of her laptop. Neither are as powerful since her Triple Core model is sold out, but decent dual-core models nonetheless. I occupied my time by installing some security software on my Uncle Doug’s machine and when I was all done I finally got the courage to go back and see Grandpa.

It was hard to go back there because of what I was told on the phone and going back to see him off all the medicine and off all the machines…I wasn’t sure I could handle it if I was in the room and his heart gave out. I was back there with my mom, my aunt Lynnie and my Uncle Johnny as he slept. His breathing sounded fine, and he looked good for an 86 year old man in the ICU. We where all there waiting for the doctor to have a talk with Lila and the 4 kids. This happened while I was back there and I had to leave.

Back to the waiting room to sit uncomfortably and wait to hear what news the doctor told them. We all expected it to be bad, since that is what our phonecall led us to believe. We sat there and talked about stuff, I didn’t pay too much attention. Then finally I saw my Uncle Johnny come out with his wife Cindy. Cindy came into our waiting room and started to tell us some of what happened and that things are not anywhere NEAR as bad as Lila had made them out to be.

My mom emerged and I got up to talk to her. I guess Lila was mistaken because the doctor is still very optimistic about Lefty, stating that he has been removed from all the machines and medicine because he no longer needs them. He is eating his own food now, talking and breathing on his own. They have the surgery planned for tomorrow morning and say he has a good chance of making it through.

So what started out as horrible news ended up being a miscommunication and all things are not bad on the Grandpa Lefty front.

Kaylie and I took the kids to go see him yesterday, and he is no longer in the ICU! He is up in his own room now and doing really well. The kids loved seeing him and as always he loved seeing the little ones. He was very tired and kept falling asleep while we were in the room, which I understand so no big deal.

So far this is good news! I will update again on this after his surgery! Wish him luck!

Homer Charles (part 2) Update on Grandpa Lefty

I know I have only written up part one of my tales of Grandpa Lefty, and I will write up part two. It’s just really hard right now and I haven’t been able to sit down and write it up.

You might ask:”Why don’t you just write it up now, you’re here, typing about him?” Well, mostly because I have other things I want to get out first. Mostly about my visit to the hospital to see him last night.

 

Let’s start this by saying I never thought him being this sick and close to his death bed would effect me like this. When my dads dad passed away back in 2006 I felt almost nothing. I was sad. I didn’t like it. However I did not shed a tear nor was I broken up about it. I had only met this man three times in my entire life and only spoke to him on the phone maybe a dozen times. I was 24 when he passed so there where several years for us to get to know each other, and it just never happened. I loved him, I respected him, I just didn’t know him.

Grandpa Lefty is very different. I grew up with him. I saw him a lot as a kid and did a lot of awesome things with him. He taught me how to use a chainsaw, drive a tractor, build a fence, fix a lawn mower, widdle a chunk of wood, the value of hard work and so much more. Even though I was and am the least favorite grandchild (and it has been made known on several occasions that this is the case) I still feel close to him in a way I can not describe. Maybe it’s because I’m not the favorite that I look up to him so much. I always tell myself that if I can work half as hard as he can I’m doing okay.

Last night I went to the hospital to see him again and it was vastly different than any time before. I’ve talked to him since he’s been in the hospital but each time he was heavily sedated and could only speak in breathy hard to understand words. This time he was sitting up, able to speak like normal and over all looking good. Only it was very difficult. He want’s to leave the hospital. He wants to get back to doing what he does best, being Grandpa Lefty and letting nothing stop him from the things he loves to do. Like working on a lawn mower or tractor.

He asked me to help him get up so I could take him home. I had to tell him no, which is something you generally just don’t tell Grandpa Lefty. He got mad at me for that and I tried to explain that I couldn’t because the doctors wouldn’t let me take him home even if I tried. He was generally in good spirits about things though. He kept joking with us. When Lila, my step-grandma, asked him for a kiss so she could go home he casually looked down and said “no, I don’t think I want to do that.”

Lila responded with “Well I’m just going to stand here until you do so I can go home, Lefty!” He smiled and laughed a little then gave her the kiss she wanted. He joked with his nurse who wouldn’t let him get up that he was going to make her go outside and get a switch so he could ‘whup her ass’. These things gave me hope that my kids would soon be able to see him again (they all love him so much and always want to see him).

But then he would forget where he was and get angry that he couldn’t leave again. We were able to calm him down pretty quickly when we reminded him he was in the ICU and that he needed to rest and get better.

It’s really hard to me to see him forgetful and vulnerable. In my mind Grandpa Lefty has always been this ‘tough as nails, do anything as long as you work hard for it old man’ that I could measure my life to and see how I stack up. Well, not my life per-say because I wouldn’t want to have lived his life but my ambition. I’ve always been, and always will be, respectful of the efforts he puts out and the way in which he lives his life, not necessarily the things he does but his determination to not be lazy and get done what needs to get done. That is what I meant. But to see him so vulnerable and talking nonsense is difficult, as I’m sure it is for anyone with a loved one who has gone through this.

When I got home last night I had a hard time. I’m not to proud to admit this is really wearing on me and last night I was unsure if I would be able to go to the hospital and see him again like that. This morning I’m doing better and I know I will go see him again, even though it’s tough. I have to remember this isn’t about me at all. It’s about him, and he needs to know that no matter what his family loves and cares for him. Even the ones on the bottom of the proverbial family food chain.

I guess I will just make this part 2 of my posts on Homer Charles, since it fits the formula. Part 3 will come soon-ish. I need to find some photos for it.

Part one of a day trip to Seattle: Game Works and Cheesecake

So I am writing this the day after I went to dance in the valentine with Jesse. The day after I drank a little more than I should have and elated all around Seattle. A day in which I went to bed at 2am to get up at 7am with screaming kids/ a day after what was a really good night. How good? Just read my last post.

Spent the morning arguing and yelling with and at my kids/ not sure what it is about kids in the morning on the weekends but they like to spend most of their time running like thy are being chased by Michael Jackson and screaming like he caught them. I swear my kids could wake up a bear in hibernation. I mean a real bear, not hose hairy gay things that have taken the homo world by storm over the last few years. Then again, they could probably wake them up as well. In a non creepy way of course.

Let’s jut stop talking about my kids and bears in the same paragraph and move on. I didn’t mean it to go that way and I am sorry. Please forgive me, I know not what I’ve done.

The wife and I packed the kids up and headed down to a place called “The Zone Sportsplex” to let the kiddies play on the imflatables. They seemed to love it like a fat kid (read: me) loves ice cream. I wish I could go on them and bounce and slide down the giant inflatable slides. It’s not fair that I’m all grown up and fat and would probably deflate them if I jumped on for the wild ride.

We watched the kids play, watched some young girls soccer games and enjoyed the view. I did make a comment as we walked in that I wish they served beer so I could kick back a cold one while the kids burnt calories. Low and behold when I went up to get some drinks (which included a white chocolate Carmel mocha for me, which incidentally is the most racially confused racist coffee you can order) I noticed on their sign that they do indeed sell bottles of beer for $2.50. Since it only cost $21 for three kids to play I could feesable pay an extra $20 on drinks for me and get 8 down and have the kids entertained for $41 total. Not bad, but I’m not a drunk and wouldn’t do that…

After the Zone we headed out to my parents house and ditched 2 of our 4 kids there so we could take the chitlins over to Seattle. And by Other chitlins I mean the eldest and the youngest, seeing how we where taking the eldest over to see The Harry Potter Exhibition and the youngest one is only a month old and mostly sleeps through things like this.

We headed off on our grand adventure to Seattle a little after 4pm when out tickets to see The Harry Potter Exhibition wasn’t until 9:45pm, we wanted to get there early to have dinner and dork around. I’m not sure why, but we decided to head to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner. Let me take that back, I know exactly why, my wife wanted it and she generally get’s what she wants. In this instance it was okay with me since this place makes some bomb ass food. I mean that literally too, their food contains little bombs of flavor that explode in your mouth. (Try not to think dirty with that one) Little known fact is the Cheesecake Factory doesn’t take reservations, at least the wouldn’t from us when we called an hour or so prior to arriving. Maybe we are just not boss enough. Also non-little known fact is the place was pact with people and there was an hour wait. Good thing for us Game Works is across the street.

This would be our eldest first time to Game Works and he was wide eyed and like a kid on a  sugar high the entire time. He kept saying “This is like Chuck E Cheeses…only way better!” Why yes son, yes it is. This place is mostly racing games and shooting games, which to an 8 year old is like heaven. Couple that with the ticket games and crappy kid food he never wanted to leave. Hell, I never wanted to leave. I spent time with him racing in a Hummer, shooting giant ass spiders from the back of a Jeep and watching him race a Ferrari down the streets of San Fransisco and Highway 101. How much more awesome could this get?

Well, there seemed to be a lot of high school kids there dressed out in their best 80′s outfits, that’s how much more awesome this could have gotten. I now know how people felt when I was in high school and there was the 70′s flashback days that we thought where so long ago and ‘retro’ when I see people ‘dressing up’ in 80′s and 90′s attire. Styles that I remember seeing on TV and in real life everywhere I went…only much like the 70′s costumes of my high school days these where WAY over exaggerated. Because I never remember seeing people in super hot pink and neon green spandex that where so tight you could count her stubble. Think about it and you will understand. And it’s not like it’s easy to NOT look and a guy and a girl in super tight spandex that’s neon colors, they sort of burn your retina as they walk by with their glory. These kids where underage but I swear to god their tailored their outfits to induce people to look at the low and lovelies. Seriously, it’s like they where holding signs saying “Look! We shaved!”  I would have taken a picture to share with you this but I felt I might get arrested for inappropriate pictures of minors. Thank god they where at least both cute.

During a roaring round of shotting some tanks from a turret our little Cheescake Factory beeper thingy-ma-bob started flashing. We had to abandon that fight so we could partake in the good eatings of the night.

We take our seat at the Factory (that’s what I’m calling it no because I’m tired of typing Cheesecake) and order ourselves the hardest drink on the menu…a Shirley Temple with extra cherries. That’s right, hard core drinking right there. Only I don’t like cherries so I had a Dr. Pepper instead, but still, hard core.

One thing I forgot about the Factory was that there maybe a long wait to get it, and it may be loud, but the food is fantastic. And they give you so much of it. I ordered a Chicken Cesar and literally only could eat about a third of it before I was done. No one was able to finish their food and we have yummy left overs to take home. Even though we couldn’t finish our dinner we still order ourselves some cheesecake (doesn’t count, it’s not in the name of the Factory and I was using it to describe the type of desert I ordered, so bleh). You cannot go to the Factory and not order cheesecake. That’s like going to Safeco Field and not watching the baseball game.

We ate our cheesecake, paid our bill and stormed out in a blaze of glory to our car to head off to the Pacific Science Center to see The Harry Potter experience. Which you will read about in my next post, title “Harry…Harry…Harry Potter!”

My wife of 4 years turns one year older today!

Another year has passed, and with it comes the passing of milestones. This year’s milestone for my beautiful wife is her turning 24. Oddly enough 24 is the age I was when I met her. 24 was also my favorite number growing up (if you grew up near Seattle you will understand why) (and if you don’t, it’s because of Ken Griffey, Jr.). Which oddly enough is the inverse of my current favorite number since adult hood, 42 (if you have ever read Douglas Adams you will understand why) (and if not, what’s wrong with you?). 24 was a great year for me and it’s going to be an even better year for my wife!

Why you ask? Well, we have our new daughter Tegan. We have our 3 other amazing children doing amazing things. We have an exciting year planned out where we are getting our of debt, paying off cars and possibly buying a house. So great things are in store for her and Team Horsley 3!

This post is going to be short but sweet. I really just wanted to get something up here to make sure all my readers and anyone who stops by knows how much I love my wife. I love her with all or me.

It’s been one of those weeks

I don’t know what it was, I think I generally just was tired, irritated and upset for no real good reason. Maybe it’s an overwhelming of nerves, the sense that my 4th, yes you read that correctly, my FOURTH child is approaching it’s culmination of gestation to enter the world as a living, breathing, shitting human being. I am looking forward to when Scarlet is here and the pregnancy is over.

Anyone who says they like being pregnant is a dirty filthy liar. And I have not tolerance for liars. I’m not sure whats worse, the lying about being pleasant or the hormonal beast they become that is impenetrable to reason and clear judgment. Mind you my wife isn’t so bad while pregnant. The worst part is that her back is killing her all the time and I feel like a butler. 90% of the time I don’t mind getting up out of my chair many times over and getting her what she needs. I will say that I can not wait until it’s over. Ad that to the three kids I have now with their demands or my time and try and figure out how many times I have to get up while watching TV, a Movie or doing practically anything else. There is a reason why I leave my laptop on my tall boy dresser so I can use it while standing.

Mexicans Day at the fair!

Sunday September 19th, 2010. The wife and I joined my sister and her family on an excursion to the Puyallup State Fair.   It was a magical time. Magical rain, magical sunshine, magical melt downs and magically expensive shit food. This brings up several things I wish to talk about, but the first thing I noticed as we walked in was that there was a free Mexican dance show that day at the fair and that the number of Mexican, or Latino, attendees seemed to be rather high. Not one to point out things like this, but it was about a 3 – 1 ratio of Mexican/Latino’s to ‘other’. That includes white, black, green and purple people (eaters). Not being racist (yet), just pointing it out.

Anyway, we had planned on going this day for a long time but the weather was shite so we canceled our plans. Well at the last minute we decided to join my sister and crew and suck it up and just go. We spent some time, packed up our gear, and our kids, and left for the hour and a half drive to the fair. One thing to note is that the wife and I both have GPS iPhones…and we still went the wrong way on i5. It really wasn’t a big deal is it added like 3 minutes to the trip, but still…frustrating. The really funny thing about this? We where laughing and upset (a little) that we went the wrong way. I mean, shit, we have turn by turn directions (that we weren’t using) and we went on south I5 and not north I5…only to realize today that our little screw up was not a screw up at all. I haven’t told the wife this yet, but she will read it here assuming she reads this.

Not taking the wrong directions aside we finally get there. And here is something that irritates the SHIT OUT OF ME.

PARKING.

Why in the name of everything that is holy is parking at an event feel like they are raping you with no lube, so god damned expensive, overpriced? Does it REALLY need to be $12 to park at the state fair? Seriously? For that matter why is it when I am in San Diego (which means Whales Vagina) for ComiCon does parking range form $10 to $50? Who in their right mind would agree that $50 is worth while for a parking price? I understand the price is based upon the demand yadda-yadda, but parking prices are insane. During an event I can understand $10. That seems fair. But come on folks, $12 for a FAIR? $5 seems more appropriate.

Next on the hit list:

THE PRICE OF FOOD.

If I wanted to pay $30 to shit chunky water I’d go eat fillet mignon (I’m allergic to beef). I spent $9 on some shitty chicken strips and french fries.  Ok, the fries where ok, but the chicken strips…I should have just asked for a glass of the grease they used to cook it cause that’s what it tasted like. God forbid I wanted a drink to go with it..that would have been another $5. We spent $20 for a pepperoni pizza that wasn’t to bad, but I’m pretty sure it was the same as a $5 pizza from Safeway. My sister bought a cheeseburger for $5. No fries or soda with that. JUST a greasy burger.

Luckily we bought 2 of the ‘fair backpacks’ that gives you some coupons for the fair (that are completely worthless), some drinks, snacks and coupons to be used after the show. The 2 set us back $25, but the drinks and snacks came in handy. Not sure it was money well spent BUT it was nice while at the fair.

The best part of the fair was walking around in what I like to call the ‘free zone’. You know, the pavilion thing where all these companies are trying to sell you shit and giving away shit for free. Not literally shit, but shit none the less. We got some samples, almost bought some shoe polish from this very persuasive guy, almost switched our TV service to Dish Network and watched a questionably Japanese girl make sushi.

Now to preface the next sub story of this story of epic-fair-ness, the wife and I have been looking into getting a new bed. A Temper-Pedic bed to be exact, but they are ass expensive (like Vegas ass, not Seattle ass).  She wants one bad. So bad that she has been having dreams about getting one.

While walking down an isle Kaylie looks at me and says “I wonder if they have a Temper-Pedic booth here with awesome deals!” I turn around, then tap her on the shoulder and say “Hey babe, look. A Temper-Pedic booth with awesome deals”

Two hours later we are the proud owners of a Temper-Pedic Rhapsody memory foam bed. We are also the proud owners of a crap ton more debt. How much debt? Well, just go look up the price for yourself if you want to know.

The last thing I want to talk about is the ‘Mexicans Day’ reference I made earlier in the post. Needless to say I made several jokes Mexicans Day jokes. Like there was a group of police officers (like 15) standing next to a taco stand. I wont tell you what I may or may not have said (you can’t prove it) but it was hilariously inappropriate. Well on our way out we saw a sign that said ‘Latino Appreciation day’, which in my mind validated me calling in Mexicans Day and everything else prior. I wasn’t a racist I was just very observant.

Oh, and if on Latino appreciation day they got discounted tickets, I want to know why the hell there wasn’t a white appreciation day with discounted tickets. Sometimes it sucks being a white male. No white history month, not white appreciation day, no white males night at the bar. Just less likely to be arrested and better pay in all our jobs to get us by.

Now that’s going to piss someone off.

Apparently Ostly is an alternate spelling of Horsley and so is Worsley. So all you Ostley’s and Worsley’s out there, welcome to the family! Get your crazy card at the door.

For some reason today I became interested in google-ing my last name and seeing what I can find. Not sure why, but every now and then I feel like trying to find information about my family history. As with any family there are some pretty awesome things your can find out. Like how several of my ancestors where the High Sheriff of Northumberland, which apparently means they are the oldest secular office under the Crown. Basically they where the law in them thar territories. One of the times in history that the Horsley where on the right side of the law…at least on paper.

I found there is a jhorsley.com, which appears to be a guy who was learning to be a programmer but stopped blogging a few years ago. Interestingly there is a J Horsley in Utah that teaches communications. Robert J. Horsley Jr was arrested in Brazil for being drunk. Not as exotic as you might think, it’s Brazil, Indiana. Still, 18 and a drunk in public, it’s a good thing I never did that…

I also found out that I will never be as cool as this J Horsley. Because when asked if you are Gangasta or Punk, the most hard core awesome answer is always “C… Pritty boi thug”

Today Kaylie and I got up ass early to take Jake to see a neurologist at MaryBridge Childrens Hospital in Tacoma to see why he falls down all the time. You see, my son in all his glory, seems to have a hard time standing up, walking straight and only walks on his toes. After mentioning this to all of his doctors for he past four years we finally got a referral to a specialist for it.

Let’s do a run down of the day, shall we?

We woke up to what I thought was an hour late. I get up while the wife sleeps, rush to take a shower, get dressed, get Jake dressed and frantically try and get my lazy ass wife out of bed. She gets up and takes her sweet ass time to get ready. FINALLY she tells me that we are not late but early and did not have to leave for another 15 minutes. Good start.

From here we stopped by he coffee shop in the building Kaylie works in to get coffee and bagels for breakfast. Not to say this place always puts to much damn cream cheese on the bagels but…the put to much damn cream cheese on the bagels. Literally enough cream cheese for three if not four Bagels piled high on my one pizza bagel. Did I mention that they forgot to toast my bagel? Yeah. Awesome. Enjoy that tip. The coffee however was excellent.

I should add that Jake downed not one but TWO hot chocolates while in the store.

Next we pick up g-ma so we can take her car on the drive to neurological exploration of Jakes brain. Or ‘DNEJB’ as I came to call it. The actual drive to the DNEJB was uneventful. The highlight possibly being I finished an entire 16oz white chocolate with caramel mocha and had the rabbit shits when we got there.

Parking at MaryBridge sucks. In fact saying it sucks is an insult to things that suck. I had to drop Kaylie, Jake, and g-ma off and park illegally at a church half a mile away then walk up through the ghetto where I saw three hookers get stabbed by a cop, a clown get arrested, a full size statue of a nude winged angel and a midget pogo dancing on top of a pinto. Food for thought, only ONE of those descriptions is true. Tale your pick. It was however raining and cold.
To the left is your clue to which one of the above blatant lies true.

Finally I get to the hospital and try to locate the room my son was in, detour to the can and drop rabbit deuce then get on my way to meet up with the crew on the DENJB.

I made my way into the exam room. And proceeded to talk with the doc about how Jake falls down while Jake, in true Jake fashion, kept falling down. Was it on purpose or because he lost balance? No idea, but he failed most of the balance tests.

The real fun happened when I was walking back to get the car. Not only did I get lost trying to find the car, but I got yelled at by a crazy black lady for crossing a road…at a cross walk. I trod to get a picture of her, but she vanished like a ghost.

We located the car, went to see Kaylie mom and then went to lunch. Mexican pizzas, cherry coke and now my tummy hurts (yes, tummy. It is manly to say tummy.)

On a fun side note I wrote this whole post from my phone, in the car on the way home.

The end of today and the start of a new me.

So when I woke up this morning I had no idea today would go the way it did. My PLAN today? Wake up, feed the kids, kiss the wife goodbye as she goes to work, take the kids to my parents and get picked up by my wife and head to a family team meeting for that thing I’m not allowed to talk about.

Instead, my wife stayed home, I had an ultrasound on my liver and gallbladder done today to find out if certain aspects of my blood work that where elevated where dangerous. (It came back okay so far, I’ll find out more when my doctor looks at it). After that the wife and I went to Costco to get some goods, spent to much money and had to go to the bank and deposit a check that we found in the car to cover our over spending.

After this boring stuff we went to the place that made today interesting. Okay, never mind we did that BEFORE Costco, but it doesn’t matter. We went to the Air Force recruiters office. Why would I go there? Because I’m about 85% sure that I will be joining the Air Force within the next year. Why not join now? cause I need to loose about 42lbs before I can join, something I plan to do within the next 4-6 months. The interesting part? I HAVE to be in boot camp before I’m 28, which will be March or 2010. So I need to bust ass and loose weight. The requirement for my height, 6′1″, is 208lbs and currently I’m at around 250lbs. Let’s just say I’m going to be playing A LOT of Wii Fit!

Another question you are probably asking is why? Why would I join the Air Force? Well that’s complicated. I’m jobless. There’s NO JOBS out there that I can get to support my family of 5 on unless I finish school. I don’t have any money to finish school. Financial AID is a bitch cause they denied me due to me dropping out in 2007 for my sons medical reasons.

The Air Force will give my entire family medical, housing, benefits, and money. I have decided to join to support my family.

Your next question is probably what about y2cl? What will happen to y2cl when you leave for the Air Force?

Well, y2cl will continue. I’m planning to work hard and get a very large buffer for while I’m gone in boot camp to keep the site updated with new comics. Obviously I wont be around to respond to comments at that time, but my wife will be checking the site to respond to comments. Jon Anderson will also still be working on his portion for the comics and they his comic will still be posting when he sends them to me. So rest assured, y2cl will not stop during this time.

This is a very large decision for me to make and took a LOT of thought on my part. This is what I have to do, for my family.
